While Chairman Ni John Fru
Ndi leader of the main opposition party in the country was last Saturday February
28 at his Ntarinkon palace receiving 2015 new year wishes from militants and
sympathizers, news of the gruesome murder of one of his trusted herdsman fell
like thunder sending shockwaves across the entire palace. The assailant
notorious for rape and arm robbery was gunned down by the Police and clubbed to
dead by an angry population of the area.
The incidence took place in
Ngoo village after Befang in Menchum Division where the late herdsman whose
name is Buba Abdou was catering for Fru Ndi’s cows. Reports on the ground
states that what might have led to the gory incident was unbelievably that Buba
Abdou’s chicken had scattered dirt on the path leading to house of Mua Joseph
Aba the assassin. Mua Joseph was coming back from the market after haven sold
ginger and saw Buba Abdou in his compound about to go the market. He picked up
a quarrel as to why Abdou’s chicken had to scatter dirt on his path. According
to the victim’s wife who was returning from fetching water, her late husband
tried to apologize but the assassin made swift use of his machete and before
she reached the compound her husband had already slumped in a pool of his own
blood dead. She says they don’t share any boundary talk less of having any
issues nor that did her late husband owe him any money.
The widow Karimou Fulera
from Ndu was lamenting that the assassin though jointly killed by the
population and the forces of law and order, it has dealt with her. She is with
eight children and her late husband was the sole bread winner given that she is
a patient. The assassin death is said to be relief to the people in that
community stating that he was in the habit of raping and stealing. His own
mother escaped to the South West Region after a failed attempt of rape by her
son Mua Joseph. Before this act he was just released from an uncompleted jail
term at the Wum prison where was incarcerated for rape and theft. Many wondered
aloud what had become of the justice system that lets loose criminals to
terrorize free people. The population
later on buried his mortal remains on the outskirts of the community saying
that he was an outcast by his action. The victim’s remains was taken and buried
at a Moslem cemetery without his boss Fru Ndi though informed, was busy
receiving new years wishes back in Bamenda.
Present at the scene were
the Divisional Officer’s assistant, the Senior State Counsel for Menchum, MP
for Menchum North Hon. Ndong Larry Hills, a college of Gendarmerie officers and
the Police. Chairman Fru Ndi’s body guards are reported to have taken the widow
and her eight children away.
