In present time nobody can be indifferent to the rapidity with which the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS virus from when the campaign encouraging pregnant women to attend antenatal care at least thrice before delivery, was launch under the banner of HIV Free North West and South West project carried out by the CBC Health Services. Having moved from above 8 percent transmission rate to about 2 percent of mother to child transmission is a remarkable feat applauded by the public.
The HIV Free NW and SW project coordinated by Prof Tih Pius, Director of the CBC Health Services has been dispatching teams in to the hinterlands to preach the gospel of ANC in a bid to curb rate of transmission fro mother to child. Many children of infected mothers are today born free from the virus thanks to this project. Many more men are beginning to accompany their spouse to attend antental care clinic where both are tested if positive are placed on treatment which is free of charge as subsidized by the State of Cameroon and foreign partners. People in as far off as Baworo and Furu awa in Menchum, Ako and Nwa in Donga Mantung and most parts of Momo Division have had teams come talk to them on this life saving gospel.
The activities over the years would not go unnoticed as many organizations keep awarding the project with award of excellence. The latest was from the Guardian Post newspaper award that took place in Bamenda on Saturday February 28. Mr. Abanda Alphonse charged with Division of communication flanked by other colleagues received the Award prize on behalf of CBCHS. On hand to witness the award of the prize was the President of the CBC who was equally happy to be part of the success story. Abanda Alphones remarked that the Award shall spur more research in this domain on how to continue in the direction of enhancing awareness on PMTCT. Most people find solace seeking medi-care at any of the CBC health Services found any where in the country given the concern shown on patients combining medicine with the Biblical lessons.
