Bafut Council To Boost Agriculture, 2 Tons of Maize Seeds Distributed On Women’s Day

Taking advantage of the huge turn out of women for the commemoration of the 30th edition of the international day of the woman on March 8th in Bafut, Mayor Langsi Abel Ngwanso in his traditional seeds distribution exercise donated to the women two tons of improved maize seeds for planting this season. These improved maize seeds produced by the North West Development Authority with French acronym MIDENO, worth FCFA 1 million according to Mayor langsi was in keeping with a yearly rendezvous with the rural woman by the Mayor of Bafut to ensure food sustainability in his municipality which also feed the neighboring markets with food stuffs.
The celebration of the international day of the woman that was characterized by match pass, fashion parade, traditional dances and musical display by female artist, took place on the esplanade of the Bafut Council multipurpose chamber. The occasion like in the last five years was presided over by the Divisional Officer of Bafut, Ewanebong Jude flanked by the Mayor of Bafut Langsi abel Ngwanso and the member of Parliament for Tubah/Bafut Constituency, Hon. Fusi Naamukong Wilfred.
There was a massive turnout of women for this year’s commemoration as mobilized by the President of the Bafut women forum cum Principal of the Presbyterian Technical Girls School Bafut, Mrs. Cheng Bounzou Blessing. The women in Bafut came out in variety of beautiful tailored fabric moving away from the traditional women’s day fabric that used to be a mad rush among women in the past. Women groups this time around came out in their Njangi Uniforms and match past gallantly winning prizes with only a handful could be spotted of those putting on the 2015 fabric. The Chief Executive for Bafut congratulated the women for their contribution in the socioeconomic growth of the nation saying government is doing everything possible to enable the women assert themselves in various sphere of public life. He called on more women to get in to active politic and that today more women are in parliament and Senate. Today unlike before a woman is an SDO and another has been appointed a legion commander of the Gendarmerie.
In appreciation of this day, the Mayor lauded the massive turn out by the women for this day celebration and that it means more and more women are becoming aware of what is required of them. He accredited the turn to the Bafut Women Forum chair for mobilizing the women and that the activities of the day were so exciting and entertaining. Hon. Fusi Naamukong also joined his voice to that of the mayor saying the mobilization and organization for this year has beaten that of yesteryears. To him women are the backbone of the economy doing 90% of the activities in the communities. He called on the women to continue in this same direction by carrying out more agricultural activities in support of the men to forge ahead in the drive to make better lives. Talking as a Bafut man, the honorable Member of Parliament said he was brought by his mother in a very special way to be able to do all the things women and men do and that these values should continuously be implanted in the younger generation to ensure a future for the community.
