Taking advantage of the
huge turn out of women for the commemoration of the 30th edition of the
international day of the woman on March 8th in Bafut, Mayor Langsi
Abel Ngwanso in his traditional seeds distribution exercise donated to the
women two tons of improved maize seeds for planting this season. These improved
maize seeds produced by the North West Development Authority with French
acronym MIDENO, worth FCFA 1 million according to Mayor langsi was in keeping
with a yearly rendezvous with the rural woman by the Mayor of Bafut to ensure
food sustainability in his municipality which also feed the neighboring markets
with food stuffs.

international day of the woman that was characterized by match pass, fashion
parade, traditional dances and musical display by female artist, took place on
the esplanade of the Bafut Council multipurpose chamber. The occasion like in
the last five years was presided over by the Divisional Officer of Bafut,

turnout of women for this year’s commemoration as mobilized by the President of
the Bafut women forum cum Principal of the Presbyterian Technical Girls School

beautiful tailored fabric moving away from the traditional women’s day fabric
that used to be a mad rush among women in the past. Women groups this time
around came out in their Njangi Uniforms and match past gallantly winning
prizes with only a handful could be spotted of those putting on the 2015
fabric. The Chief Executive for Bafut congratulated the women for their
contribution in the socioeconomic growth of the nation saying government is
doing everything possible to enable the women assert themselves in various
sphere of public life. He called on more women to get in to active politic and

is an SDO and another has been appointed a legion commander of the Gendarmerie.

day, the Mayor lauded the massive turn out by the women for this day
celebration and that it means more and more women are becoming aware of what is
required of them. He accredited the turn to the Bafut Women Forum chair for
mobilizing the women and that the activities of the day were so exciting and
entertaining. Hon. Fusi Naamukong also joined his voice to that of the mayor saying
the mobilization and organization for this year has beaten that of yesteryears.
To him women are the backbone of the economy doing 90% of the activities in the
communities. He called on the women to continue in this same direction by
carrying out more agricultural activities in support of the men to forge ahead
in the drive to make better lives. Talking as a Bafut man, the honorable Member
of Parliament said he was brought by his mother in a very special way to be
able to do all the things women and men do and that these values should
continuously be implanted in the younger generation to ensure a future for the
community.
