Councilor Benjamin Achu Fru Ndi
Following the introduction of a youthday fabric by the minister of youth and physical education USMAN Biddoum Mkpatt, there have been diverse views with some totally against. One of the persons we spoke to was councilor Benjamin Achu Fru Ndi, a young man himself who had this to say;
"I my opinion it is not priority of
the things that affect the youths today. As we all understand, we have a very
industrious young generation that is not well catered for or well taken care of
by the regime in place today. For instance despite all the noise on small and
medium size enterprises and how they are out to support ingenious young people,
they can not come out with a track record to show us who has done what there.
And how these stories of successful stories
across the country of people who have been able to develop small
enterprises over the last three years that the ministry has been embarking on
encouraging these small enterprises. They haven’t seen or said which of these
enterprises have grown and created jobs and created that much employment. I
think that more focus and special attention could be put in special programs
showing how these young people are using their skills and craft around the
country to develop economic activities would be a good place rather than having
a uniform. I understand that the uniform is supposed to help us identify with
one another in solidarity, standing near each other. Yes all of that is important
as we’ve been seeing uniforms for women on Women’s Day. But in country that is
still struggling to grow economically, I think we should be encouraging these
young men and women to invest their money and time in other activities that
would create employment and generate income that we are all calling and crying
for. In my opinion, it is not a priority right now and I think that we need to
go back to the drawing board and reconsider other means in which to encourage
the very active youth population on the Youth day. Let the theme come out that
would actually answer some of the key questions that affect the activities of
the day or the youths in general."
