Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry, Secretary of State for Mines, Industries and Technological Development
It is exactly 70 days that
the first broad day armed robbery took place on Misaje/ Dumbu road with many
relieved of their money and mobile phones, another armed robbery took place on
the same road on Monday January 18 2016 at 5 pm. The few security officers in
the area are helpless in the face of the rampant armed robberies in Misaje Subdivision,
home town of Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry, Secretary of state for mines Industries
and Technological Development and NUDP National Youth President, Ndansi Elvis
Nukam.
With porous nature of the area exposed to
insecurity at all fronts, government has refused to commission adequate
security measures in the area. The expert squat of the military BIR that use to
patrol the area was withdrawn some two years ago leaving the people of the area
at the mercy all forms of insecurity.
Misaje Town presently has four elements of the Gendarmerie with no
equipment of any form. In Dumbu the economic capital of Misaje sub Division has
three Police elements left with their bare hands to patrol the vast area on
foot. After the first attack, two trucks of military officers were dispatched
from Nkambe to tract the armed robbers and before long these same military men
started question who was to pay for the fuel they were burning. At the military
base in Nkambe there is a fuel station funded by the state yet the fuel thereof
is sold to commercial drivers plying that area.
According
to information gathered as narrated by Danladi Awudu, Subsection Youth
President for Dumbu, the armed robbers came back targeting the Section Youth
President, Abubakar Mejinyewa alias Babayo. Commercial bike riders that were
victims said when the armed bandits tract them at a road block mounted on that
they were told that their target was Babayo given that in the first attack he
Babayo had successful hid a greater chunk of his money and was boasting about
it and insulting the armed robbers in Misaje. This time they did not only take
away his FCFA 2 million and mobile phones but got him well pounded and
thoroughly searched his car for more money since he was coming from a business
trip in Nkambe. According a close source Babayo said he was to be killed thanks
to one of the armed bandit who pleaded on his behave that they should let him
go and the armed bandit carried sophisticate guns and knives this time around unlike
in the first attack where they had but locally made guns. From this narration
it can be deduced that the men of these men of the underworld that made away
with more that FCFA 3.5 million in cash last time had invested in weapons for
further operation.
It even suspected that apart
of having some informants in the Misaje area, these Bandits are working in
complicity with some persons within the security circles. Stories abound where
stolen cattle end up being shared among men in uniform while the culprits go
free. This new phenomenon is creeping in at the speed of light if the powers
that be does not do something now and fast, the lives of the people in this
area would be left at the mercy of these armed bandits. Neglecting the
situation Danladi Awudu raises fears that it may escalate in to something
different and who knows Boko haram can take advantage of the situation to
penetrate the country through Misaje.
