Orange Cameroon after sponsoring so many sporting activities organized
in the North West Region over the years has decided to launch an Orange
Cameroon Holiday championship first edition in three of Cameroon’s cities thus
Yaoundé, Douala and Bamenda. This Holiday championship with just four teams
participating in this pilot face in the North West Region from Bamenda and
Bafut has lots of prizes with a Cash prize of FCFA 1 million plus a multimedia
center for the victor community that would be managed by the local Council.
According to the communication officer of the organizing
committee, Yannick Tankeu who made this revelation in Bamenda said this is in
line with the corporate social responsibilities of Orange Cameroon. As to how
the participating teams were selected for this pilot face given that there are
so many other football competitions is a culture at this time of the year.
Yannick Tankeu intimated that in as much as not all the teams were to selected
for this pilot face, the four teams selected especially those from Bafut
performed marvelously last in a competition sponsored by the Council. This
Orange Holiday Championship is said to for Students below 29 years only and not
professionals.
The participating teams were scheduled play time through a
ballot draw at the Regional office of Orange Cameroon. Abakwa II FC would be
locking horns with Bafut II FC at semifinal one on August 8th and
Abakwa I FC would lock horns with Bafut I FC on August 9th and the
finals and third position matches shall take place today August 15th
at the Bamenda Municipal Stadium. All participating teams would take home
handsome prizes thus: Victor gets FCFA 1million cash plus an Orange Multimedia
center for the community while finals runner up takes home FCFA 500.000. The
third position grabs FCFA 250.000 while fourth position gets FCFA 200.000. The
best fan club cheering the teams as they play right to finals shall be rewarded
FCFA 50.000. Selection of this fan club shall be determined by the number of
members and originality in animation. In order to ensure that the teams meet
the criteria of players filed in, Orange Cameroon has involve officials of FECAFOOT
and other football technicians and on the days of play at the municipal stadium
the forces law and order shall be present to ensure security as anybody
entering would be thoroughly searched. The Coordinator of Abakwa I and II FC, Takang Federick (BBC Reporter) holds that his teams are well prepared for the matches and surely would take home the Orange trophy.
