CamCCUL Delegates Pose With President
The 47th general assembly meeting of the Cameroon
Cooperative Credit Union league CamCCUL took place in her imposing permanent
ultra-modern structure on the commercial avenue Bamenda. This AGM took place on
the heels of the laying to rest on Saturday June 20th of the first
ever registered credit union member, Mama Nini Juliana Ikfui age 106. She
opened the first savings account number 001 with FCFA 50 in 1968 at Njinikom
credit union and the founder of CamCCUL network with 13 members in 1964, Reverend
Father BARNICLE age 82 also died in February 25 2015 in USA. This coincidence read
meaning across the board as to say the duo waited this long to be sure that
CamCCUL headquarter is permanently planted in the North West Region.
Musa Shey Nfor, an overwhelmed President beaming with
satisfaction of the newly constructed edifice to host the headquarter of
CamCCUL, was quick to salute the SDF Chairman Fru Ndi describing him as a
wonderful exemplary neighbor, developer, father and above all a credit union
member and Pa Allo Martin for offering the CamCCUL team of this project all the
assistance necessary from a neighbor to achieve an exceptional edifice such as CamCCUL
building. The President also thanked the administration of the region for the
timely intervention in dispelling as unfounded a dangerous rumour that almost
rocked the credit union family apart as to the state of CamCCUL Building. Musa
Shey Nfor said haven eliminated Boko Haram it was not necessary to create
Rumour Haram. A new coinage to this dangerous element “Rumour Haram” which the administration
following the Governor’s timely intervention with a team of 15 engineers and
the security family who jointly established after thorough examination that the
CamCCUL building was constructed following certified architectural standard
both in quality and style fit for occupation having no signs of danger. In same
light the President appealed to the government to develop exceptional measures
to tackle this new form of insecurity which is he said, the newest most satanic
and highly resistant, fastest travelling non biodegradable. This Rumour Haram travels
at the speed of light causing generalized panic carrying along very deadly
blackmail. Government should redress the issue of tax regime for credit unions
and accelerate recovery procedure to check unscrupulous attitudes of those who
borrow big from small credit unions and fight credit unions using big means in
big courts not to repay.
Enter Chairman Fru Ndi
The encomium by CamCCUL President coincided with the comment
Chairman Fru Ndi made to this reporter on the eve of the CamCCUL AGM while
inspecting the structure himself. Hear him, “Mr. Journalist come, you know that
since all these started I have not said anything and if it were somebody from
the CPDM you people would have raised him high that he was very understanding
and nice. Now that it is Fru Ndi you people are quiet. Let me tell you as a
developer I have no problem with the structure.” This positive stance by SDF Chairman,
owner of one of the two buildings in between which is CamCCUL Building, falls
in line with an earlier statement by his son Benjamin Achu Fru Ndi, that they
as neighbors are very satisfied and have not complained of any occurrence anywhere
and reiterated that people should stop using their family name to settle
scores. This was due to the insinuation by the rumour mongers that Chairman Fru
Ndi had launched a complaint against KENDELY Construction.
Pa Awantoh, member of
Bayele credit union, told this reporter that though he had his misgiving with
CamCCUL President, when he got the rumour about the building he quickly
dispelled it as false given that he was following up how the building was being
constructed from foundation to finish. The General Manager of Bamenda Police
Credit Union, Ngum Godlove intimated that only those who are opportune to
travel out of the country would be able to appreciate the CamCCUL building
better. He said the plan was drawn following international standards and the
construction from foundation to finish with marbles was done following
international standards both in quality and beauty. Tietchou Jonas, General
Manager of CamCCUL queued in that the structure gives he and his team a sense
of satisfaction and that with the comfort in the environment within building,
output shall also increase and members should sure of even better quality
services.
MINFI Wage War Of
Delinquents
The representative of the minister of Finance Mballa Benile
cautioned credit unions to put an eye on those who borrow big and turn to fight
the credit unions in courts instead of repaying. He said the government shall
continue protect the interest of CamCCUL by providing security in times of need
and would not relent in the effort to recover those who are out to crumple
credit unions with such big loans. As to the question of membership of CamCCUL
the minister’s representative reiterated that affiliation and disaffiliation of
members in to or out of the network is regulated by Cobac. Clara Ngwin
representing the Minister of agriculture and rural development lauded CamCCUL
for granting loans to farmers under the PADMIR project. According to her this
is in line with government action to promote second generation agriculture in
the country. Julie Chiambi of the Bamenda City council rather saw the pride of
place given to Bamenda city with the construction of such a beautiful giant
structure to host the CamCCUL headquarter.
The Governor’s representative, Monono Absalom Wolua who is Secretary
General of the Region while declaring open the AGM observed that the mass turn
out by members from all the regions was proof of the dearness to which the
credit union is held. The credit union serves as catalyst to development given
the impact of the movement in capital mobilization, poverty alleviation to
improve living standards of members. The Governor did not hesitate to observe
that the fallout of the investments that members undertake with loans obtained
from credit unions benefits the entire nation directly or indirectly with
concrete example being the beautiful building which is the pride of the
regional capital today. He denounced initiators of the blackmail that almost
caused the administration not to authorize the holding of this meeting in the structure
but for the timely dispatch by the Governor, a team of engineers carried out
technical inspections and declared the rumour as unfounded given that the structure
had no crack nor did it develop any signs of stress. The chief executive
cautioned members to identify shortcomings that could weaken the movement and
make it to be unable to withstand the pressure of dynamic, competitive and
volatile forces from the national and international environment. He promised
members that government shall continue to partner with CamCCUL as has been the
case through MINADER, MINEPIA and MINEPAT. The Governor applauded KENDELY
Construction for realizing such a gargantuan structure which stands out on the
Commercial Avenue.
LABOGENIE Harmers Final
Nail
The Regional Delegation of Urban Development and Housing MINDHU
also got interested and invited a team of experts of LABOGENIE from Yaoundé. In
order to ascertain and clarify any doubts on the building especially on the
inner walls and pillars that could have not met the common eye. The team
visited the structure on Wednesday July 1 and carried out another thorough inspection,
testing every pillar with hi-tech machines to ensure that no stress had occurred.
Thereafter the team of experts made their recommendation stating that the
building is intact and is upright and has tilted neither to the left nor to the
right. With this inspection report by LABOGENIE, KENDELY Construction was given
higher scores than that of the technical team that carried out same exercise as
instructed by NW Governor. The head of the team of experts from LABOGENIE, Assonganyi
Baye Ncheng (Engineur des Conceptions) congratulated KENDELY Construction and
encouraged the company to keep up with such quality works. It should be noted
that on the day of CAMCCUL AGM over 700 delegates from the ten regions of
Cameroon registered present on the 8th floor in the CamCCUL building
in Bamenda, moving up and down for close to 10 hours. After due deliberations
as to management of the 2014 budget members voted a budget of over FCFA
2.3billion for 2015 in a bid to continuously better the lives of the masses.
