Annual Meta Cross Country Race Rendezvous Postponed For Next Year, Raised To Divisional

By Ignatius Nji

The annual Meta Solidarity cross country race that has been going on for several years now organized and sponsored solely by Joseph Sanji a concern elite  and elected Councilor in Mbengwi shall not take place this year 2015. The rendezvous has been shifted for 2016 and the competition shall be extended to participants from all the SubDivisions in Momo. This information was made public in Mbengwi on Friday July 16 at a press conference by Councilor Joseph Sanji.
This information came at the time when athletes of Meta were already bracing up for the traditional August rendezvous. According the benefactor, Joseph Sanji, the postponement is from a constituent organizing committee meeting the took place in Yaoundé following the announcement of last year that the solidarity race shall go Divisional. This therefore requires proper preparation given that the competition is moving from level of Meta to the entire Momo Division with prizes that could move from engine saws, sewing machines, computers, motor bikes as was in previous years to a car. The venue for cross country race is maintained in Mbengwi but for the distance that would be extended to meet up with the handsome prizes.
Quizzed as to whether other elite are coming in to support the race as promised last year. Joseph Sanji said many people are good at making promises when they see a crowd. When you initiate something just go ahead and do it and anybody who wants to join you can do along the line. So far only Senator Fon Teche has paid in the FCFA 500000, he promised last year and the sum is saved in the race’s account. This amount already paints a bigger picture of the prizes with the first instead of winning a motorbike it might move to a car as earlier said. The race started off as Ngyiembu Solidarity race and moved to Meta Solidarity race and today it is moving in to Momo solidarity race. The race is giving the youths of this Division, a chance to explore their natural talents in athletics. For a bigger picture of this race, Joseph Sanji says consultative talks are ongoing between himself and the Senior Divisional Officer for Momo on how to set up a sports complex for the Division. The sports complex shall include other sports discipline in the competition. The press conference took place few hours after North West Senators visited Momo Division and donated a bike each to all the councils. The Senators distinguished Councilor Joseph Sanji as one of the prominent elite whose presence and activities are felt at home. In reaction to this recognition, councilor Joseph Sanji said of all the external elite who stood for the 2013 election, he is the only one that succeeded in the race and more so he is always at home to do one or two things for his community maybe that was the reason for the recognition by Senator Fon Teche at that meeting with Senators.
