The orphan population of Misaje
SubDivision in Donga Mantung and Bum SubDivision in Boyo Division in terms of
security, have resolved to purchase armunitions to confront the frequent
armrobberies that have taken the area hostage given government neglect to
listen to the people’s cry for security. This was a resolution arrived at after
recent waves of attacks and lose of millions to the men of the underworld, some in broad day light.
Every
last quarter of the year is usually hell for the people of this area as
men of the underworld take advantage of the lack of security forces in the area
to carryout attacks with guns, knives, clubs and staffs at makeshift barricades
mounted at unsespecting part of the roads. The most recent case as explained by
a victim, Maah Isaac Gabessin, a veterinary officer cum LIFIDEP focal point
personel for Boyo took place not far away from Misaje in Munong Village on
their way from Fonfuka on Monday November 7, 2016. According to his narration,
he was on a bike from delivering a letter in Fonfuka and decided to visit his
family in Dumbu, so was accompanied by another vehicle which among the passengers
were; Ngariwa Lawrence First Deputy Mayor of Misaje and one Mr. Austin, Basic
Education Inspector for Misaje who had gone to part take in the installation
ceremony of the Basic Education Inspector for Bum. Their jolly ride on the
bumpy road came to a stop when out of the blues some strange fellows jumped out
of the bush at a mounted barricade just few metters from Misaje town and asked
them at gun point to voluntarily relief of all that was in their possession.
The Driver of the vehicle popularly
called Tolambo who works for Misaje council, tried to resist and was given a
slap that sounded like two planks clapped togather at fullforce. The rest had
their heads on the ground while the search went on smoothly. The narrator’s two
handsets and the sum of FCFA 200.000 was taken away, Mayor Ngariwa Lawrence
lost his coat, cellphone and undisclose sum of money, the Inspector of Basic
Education also handed his in them while
Tolambo drove home with no shoes. On arrival in Misaje, they victims headed
straight to the Gendarmarie Brigarde to give a report on what has happened and were told to go
home, that somebody had told them of the incident and that was it, no statement
was taken from the victims and no officers were dispatched to go patrol the
area for possible catchup with the armrobbers.
Another incident took place two
months ago on Wum road from Misaje as narrated to this reporter by one Aminu, a
bikerider saying some cattle traders who were going to the market were attacked
and beatened mercilessly by these men of the underworld. They seized money to
the tune of about FCFA 15 Million given that just from one of the traders
alone, these thieves took FCFA 7 million. The bikerider bailed himself from
their grib with his meager FCFA 10300 and his handset. Given that these waves
of attacks by these men of the underworld, Aminu disclosed to this reporter
that inspite government restriction on the possession of guns, the traders and
other villagers have resolved to defy this restriction and purchase guns in
readiness for self defense if government continues to stay mute in the face of
these calamities.
