Armed Robbers Bounce Back On Bamenda/Nkambe Road Robbed Passengers 2 km away From Gendarmerie Checkpoint Ignatius Nji Reports

Some unidentified arm robbers mounted a barricade on the night of Friday August 8 2014 just two kilometers away from a Gendarme Check point at Takija on the road to Nkambe from Kumbo. Passenger vehicles plying the road on that faithful night were way laid and ransacked money, phones and other belongings were stolen.
Interestingly these angels of darkness mounted their barricade just where an arm robber was killed and buried last year. The thieves forced a driver of one of the vehicles to off load the passengers after looting from them, transported the arm robbers to about few meters to the check point where they stopped the vehicle and dashed in to the bush and disappeared.
For a while now since the introduction of the rapid intervention unit of the military BIR, travelers on the Bamenda/Nkambe road have had some peace from the “coupe de route” armed robbers. With the recent development on the road the bad guys are back in full blown business. There is need for the BIR to re-launch rigorous surveillance patrol on that road to track down these enemies of peace.

Contingency Plan To Fight Against Ebola Made Public In Bamenda

In a crises meeting organized by North West Governor Adolphe Lele L’Afrique in his office on Thursday August 14 to marshal measures to contain any eventuality of the deadly ebola virus, the Chief executive debunked the allegation that a case of ebola was spotted in the Region. The meeting occasioned the presentation of a contingency plan crafted out by the Regional Delegate of Health Dr. Victor Ndiforchu.
This contingency plan according to Dr. Ndiforchu is to avert any pandemic from the ebola virus that is next door Nigeria given that Cameroon and North West in particular shares a very long boundary. To be on the alert the public has to sensitize to remain vigilant and report any case. Dr. Ndiforchu said it is better to raise a false alarm than to miss a true case of ebola. To make this plan effective it requires a holistic approach getting everybody involved most especially the media. Training workshop be organized to educate people on how to henceforth handle corpses given that the cause of death might be ebola virus. Ambulance buses should be stationed in all administrative headquarters in the Region to rush any suspected case for treatment in isolation.
Any movement of animals especially cattle on transhumance and transit across the border has been suspended and surveillance network be planted at all entry point to check on suspected case. Travelers shall be required to sign in their telephone number to facilitate contact in case of an outbreak. Poachers should be careful as they move about in wild not to touch any dead game and foresters should be careful when seizing game from illegal poachers or else they would be seizing death instead.
The public has been cautioned against eating game of all type given that how these game are killed is not known. Following text messages circulated in the country by unknown sources has affected the brisk business on pork consumption that use to be the order of day at drinking spots. Bats are said to carry the ebola virus so people are advised not to eat any of it.

Union President Seek Consular Identity For Nigerians For Easy Identification

The President of the Nigerian Union in Bamenda Mr. Ebere Umezurike says for security sake and to easily identify who is that Nigerian living in Cameroon and doing business is issue out a Consular Identity card which is cosigned by Union President in each area. He reiterates that the consular identity card should be a prerequisite for Nigerian to obtain a resident Permit. From rough estimate the Union President said there are over 800 Nigerians living in Bamenda and doing business with a good number not registered with the Union.
To the President if the consular identity is established it will facilitate identification of any Nigerian living and doing business in Cameroon. This would also enable the administration to track illegal residents among the Nigerian communities in all the Regions. As for the relation with the administration of Mezam, Mr. Ebere Umezurike says it is cordial given that the law in place most be respected to the letter. Nigerians feel at home in Cameroon and are building their homes and doing business in peace.
The recent visit to the Region by the Nigerian Consul General Dan Wari Nwazim, sparked a glimmer of hope for the Nigerians doing business in Bamenda. He applauded the Nigerian community for the peace that reign among them and wondered aloud how he wished the Consulate was located rather in Bamenda given the huge population instead of Buea where there are very few Nigerians. He cautioned his people to continuously be law abiding making sure that bad element are identified and brought to book.

Donga Mantung II Section Needs New Blood To Win 2018 Election-2013 Municipal List Leader

Though silence is still the case over when the reorganization of the CPDM basic structures of the party would take place nation wide, militants are already being conscious and taking dispositions in order not to be taken unaware when the time comes. This Reorganization fever lurking in the dark clouds of the political climate within the CPDM ranks is already taking grip of the entire Donga Mantung Division. Alhadji Abdou Kanfon Borno, List leader of the 2013 municipal election for Ndu subdivision says there is urgent need for new blood to be injected in to the Donga Mantung II section to ensure victory come 2018.
According to the award winner of the 2013 Press award on the category of Political endurance and youth emancipation as organized by The Eye Newspaper in Nkambe recently, Alhadji Borno says CPDM moved from 36 to 43 percent in the last twin election which is a mark of progress for the party in an area formerly considered as an opposition fief. To him victory was sure but for the last minutes adjustment on the party list of candidates for municipal and Parliamentary whisking him from a substantive Parliamentary candidate to a municipal list leader to have a gender balance. Many CPDM sympathizers and his admirers did not understand this last minute adjustment and thought that it was injustice meted to me which was not true. I tried to get them understand the party’s position was for the good of everybody but the time was so limited after preparing as parliamentary candidate for seven years. He says, “The opposition campaign team which initially was grounded by my candidature for Parliament took advantage of this adjustment to wipe sentiment from my admirers saying the CPDM can not be trusted pretending them that they of the opposition wanted my person to elected MP for Ndu. My plea to party hierarchy is that hence any such adjustment be made well ahead of time and that 80 percent of the candidate for Councilors be selected from the local population in order not to affect the input of aspirants.”
Talking on the reorganization, Alhadji Borno says all the basic party structures are still man by old people that lack the energy to move round and ignite the spirit of the party in the Section. To him the wise and old should be occupied with advisory positions in the party while young people having to energy and resources, take up these positions and make the party vibrant in anticipation to win overwhelmingly the up coming election come 2018.
Alhadji Borno as a youth emancipator braved it in the CPDM some 15 years ago and has successfully changed the mentally of the youth towards the CPDM party in Ndu Subdivision. He is in to large scale agriculture and has brought so many young people in to agriculture and founded a farmer group called NJANKA with a farm of over five hectares. The group cultivates soya beans, plantains, maize, oil palm plantation with a cattle ranch alongside with goats and sheep in the Mbaw plain. This initiative is to empower the youths and other elderly people in the group economically.
