North West Governor Lele L’afriique Adolphe has debunked the rumour that his administration on behalf of the Republic of Cameroon wrongfully attributed a Medal on 20th May 2016 to the renowned engineer and former director General of the Douala Shipyard, Mungwe Zacheus Forjindam who is presently serving a jail term at the Newbell prison in Douala in connection to an allegation of embezzlement of State Funds since 2008.
A radio communique to that effect dated 24th May 2016 no 020/L/E/RC/GS/CAB/SERCOM issued for the Governor and by Delegation, the Chief of Cabinet Aboubakary Haman Tchiouto, in reaction to newspapers and social media reports on the issue. According to this communique that the medal of merit was to be awarded rather to one Mungwe Zacheus Forjindam who is a senior warrant officer born 31st December 1961 and presently serving at the military air force at the Bamenda airport. According to the Governor, the medalist who was on official duties on the day of the award of medals is simply a name sake of the other though from same Santa.
In a bid to dig deeper in to an earlier press report that the medalist Forjindam the Soldier and Forjindam the Engineer are cousins given the same name after a late uncle, Eden was told in confidence by the Forjindam’s family that there is no other person in their family or in Santa by that name Mungwe Zacheus Forjindam other than the Engineer who is unfortunately being held at the Newbell Prison. Findings at military base to get to the supposed medalist yielded no fruit for instructions had been given for no comment on the issue. Another puzzling unanswered question presently making rounds is, who is this other Mungwe Zacheus Forjindam whom the administration is shielding from coming out to clear the air and it is feared, this might be a cover up given that administrators of the Cameroon government happens to be among those of nations with little regard for public apology in case of an administrative error if at all this was supposedly one. More to that is the question as to whether soldiers are attributed civil medals given that the name Mungwe Zacheus Forjindam was the 20th on the list of those to be awarded the Knight of Cameroon National Order of Merit However the Governor following that communique has promised that the medal would be awarded subsequently to the said Mungwe Zacheus Forjindam the soldier in another a public ceremony soon.
