National Security Boss Martin Mbarga Nguele
The controversial Police entrance examination written some
months back is yet to be made public in spite calls that the exams be cancelled
given that the English version of the questions were poorly translated. Many
Anglophones saw the poor translation as a deliberate attempt to ensure that
Cameroonian of English expression find difficulty in answering thereby paving
way for more Francophone candidates to take all. While in Bamenda to decorate
some ten Police officers for a courageous service to the state recently, National
Security Delegate, Martin Mbarga Nguele announced that the unpublished Police
Entrance results shall be made public as soon as infrastructure to host the
huge intake are ready.
To further clear any doubts in peoples minds, he said this
result which shall be reflected in all the subdivisions in the country shall be
purely on merits. The required 3000 constables shall be published Sub
divisionally, 1200 Police Inspectors shall be published at Divisional level
while 350 superintendents of Police shall be published at the level of the
Region. The required quota of candidates from the various Subdivisions,
Divisions and Regions shall be gotten from those that sat for the entrance
exam.
Talking about the newly created Police training college at
Kedjom Keku, the National Police Chief said it would go operational as soon as
work is completed. To him the quality of work done is not the best to host
candidates on training especially those coming from other countries. The Police
Chief expressed disappointment that the contract to renovate and restructure
these structures left behind by the road works construction company in order to
host the new Police College was entrusted to a contractor who is a son of the
soil. Eden got the name of the contractor as Prof
Peter Abety being accused of delaying the takeoff at the training center with
poorly executed job. The mayor of Tubah, Tanjong Martin also finds it difficult
to understand why the work is taking so long. On his part Professor Abety
rather says work on the project as specified on the contract was long completed
and delivered a year ago with all money paid in and that he is rather spending
extra resources (FCFA 80.000) as a concerned son of the soil to clean the place
which was abandoned in the bush. Professor Abety also revealed that there was
allocation in this year’s budget to construct classrooms at the Police which
the Police Boss has not awarded the contract then how can he blame to take off
the school on the renovation of 20 years old structures that were dormitories
used by workers of the roadwork company. As at now training facilities are not
yet available at the training center.
The Police Boss while visiting the site for new Police School
and was presented a gift of a stool from the Palace, thanked the huge
population of Kedjomkeku that turn out to welcome him saying very soon the Police
Health Center at the training center shall go functional and that subsequent recruitments
in to the corps shall also follow suit given that presently there is need for
9000 Police officers and results of the first phase shall be published soon. He
furthered that Cameroon happened to have gained the confidence of some African
countries that send in candidates for training or for refresher courses in the
country’s Police school.
The main objective of the Police Boss’s visit to the North
West Region was to decorate some ten Police officers with promotion in to
various ranks following a spectacular act fueling a bomb blast masterminded by
some SCNC militants, during the 2015 May 20th celebration in Mezam.
This patriotic act by these courageous men in uniform did not go unnoticed by
hierarchy. The names of the suspected initiators of locally manufactured bombs
destined to carry out blast at any 20th May celebration in Mezam are
still not made public. While conferring this recognition from the Head of State
Paul Biya, the National Police Chief reiterated that this bravery is
overwhelming for others to emulate. In a welcome address from the Bamenda
Government Delegate presented by Jude Waindim the Bamenda City Council
Permanent Secretary lauded the collaboration demonstrated between the Regular
Police and the City Council Police in the exercise of their function. He called
on the Council Police to shun bad practices and emulate some the good examples
set forth by the regular Police corps. With this, many wondered aloud whether
the Police corps branded over the years and smeared with the syndrome of bribe
taking and corruption, do have any grains of good lessons to give the Council
Police who themselves are plunged in open corrupt practice. The Police corps
was challenged to appropriate all the lands occupied by the Police corps with
structures in the Region.
